Ramaz Nikoladze is a natural winemaker making uniquely expressive and sincere natural wines near Western Georgia’s town of Kutaisi, where he started his small 1,5 hectares farm in 2007. He farms with organic and biodynamic methods the local grapes Tsitska and Tsolikouri, with natural fermentation taking place in the Traditional Georgian amphorae “kvevri”.
Unlike most of the better known Georgian wines, which tend to almost always be orange wines (or amber wines as Georgians prefer to say), in the region of Imereti skin contact is rarely used, and, if so, much more sparingly. Ramaz was among the first to introduce some maceration. His wines, kissed by the breezes from the nearby sea, are luminously elegant, pure, and taut, rich in character and depth.
