Orsi Vigneto San Vito, located in Emilia Romagna on the soft-sloped hills outside Bologna, has been a solid and respected reality in Italy’s natural wine world for years. Though the winery has existed for over 50 years the pivotal point arrived when Federico Orsi, after a career in management consulting, decided to radically change his life and acquired the San Vito farm.
Orsi's philosophy is best summarised in Federico’s own words: “This area is historically dedicated to viticulture: in order to fully respect this vocation, and to produce true wines of this terroir, we practice an agriculture which is capable of revitalizing the soil, stimulating plants and producing fruits with a strong bond with the terroir.”
Long since certified organic, the farm has, almost immediately after Federico’s arrival, been among the first to embrace biodynamic practices. Believing in as self-sustained an ecosystem as possible, Orsi Vigneto San Vito also hosts a thriving biodynamic orchard and raises semi-wild “Mora Romaiola” pigs. Their frizzante wines are vibrant, thirst-quenching, and full of personality.
