Tenuta Grilo is located in Southern Piemonte’s Monferrato area and was established between 1999 and 2002. This is when Guido Zampaglione, one of the true masters of Italian orange wine, after working at the famed La Stoppa and traveling throughout Italy and France, coronated his quest of finding the perfect estate to give light to his own natural wine project.
Guido farms with supreme natural care and vision 16 hectares of local varieties such as Barbera, Freisa, Dolcetto for reds and Cortese for whites, as well as international grapes who have long since naturalized, such as Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, all grown on sandy, loamy soils. Every single natural wine crafted by Guido is a hymn to his love for terroir and a clear statement of his understanding of the need for wines to evolve and mature with time, just like all living creatures.
That is why, along with long macerations for both reds and especially whites, they are released a full 8-10 years after harvest. Guido also works 3.5 hectares of high altitude Fiano in his native land of Irpinia, where the stunning vineyards are located at almost 900 mt of altitude. These are wines that are unrelentingly complex, emotionally involving, and unfathomably deep. As close as you’ll ever come to eternal wines, these are amber jewels to be forever treasured.
